Williamsburg Courier/Title Clerk

Kaufman & Canoles is seeking a Courier/Title Clerk for its Williamsburg location. This is a full-time opportunity.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  1. Travel to various courthouses (James City County, Williamsburg, New Kent, Charles City, Gloucester, Surry, York, Newport News, Hampton) for recordation of deeds and certificates.
  2. Perform title searches to obtain deeds of bargain and sale, deeds of trust, plats, liens, and certificates of satisfaction.
  3. Deliver documents for Commissioner of Accounts to Probate Clerk weekly.
  4. Collect and distribute inter-office mail.
  5. Make bank deposits.
  6. Assist with Will signings or notarizing documents for clients on and offsite.
  7. Maintain updated periodicals and supplements in K&C library.
  8. Handle deliveries/pick-ups of client documents.
  9. Cover front desk for receptionist as needed.
  10. Assist in filing and making copies for other staff and attorneys.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent required. 
  2. Clean driving record required. 
  3. Legal industry experience strongly preferred.
  4. Title work experience beneficial. 
  5. Proficient in MS Office 2016.
  6. Able to prioritize multiple tasks and responsibilities with accuracy.
  7. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  8. Exceptional attention to detail.
  9. Self-motivated and able to work independently.

Kaufman & Canoles, one of Virginia’s largest law firms, seeks a Human Resource Specialist. The firm has offices in seven Virginia cities, and this position works primarily from the downtown Norfolk location.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor or Associate’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field is preferred. 
  2. Two or more years’ experience in human resources.  Previous professional services work environment beneficial.
  3. PHR or SPHR certification highly desirable.
  4. Strong recruiting skills required.
  5. New hire orientation, performance reviews, employee relations, payroll processing, and benefits administration experience preferred.
  6. Knowledge of compliance with state and federal laws such as ADA, ADEA, HIPAA, and FMLA. 
  7. Proficient computer skills in Microsoft 2010 to include Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. 
  8. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  9. Able to multi-task and still maintain a high level of accuracy.

Responsibilities:

  1. Recruit, screen, and hire for support staff related positions.
  2. Coordinate and manage temporary personnel with various agencies.
  3. Write job descriptions and advertise job openings.
  4. Prepare, distribute, and conduct performance evaluations for staff and attorneys.
  5. Perform backup duties for Ceridian payroll, Dayforce timekeeping, and benefits administration.
  6. Counsel and develop solutions for policy and performance related issues.
  7. Coordinate job enrichment training sessions for current personnel.
  8. Review new hire paperwork and firm policies with employee during new hire orientation.
  9. Play an active role on the Wellness Committee. 
  10. Participate and assist in the planning and the execution of firm events. 
  11. Support Human Resources Director and Payroll & Benefits Manager with other assigned  tasks and projects.

Travel:

Position requires travel to other office locations in Virginia.
