Real Estate Legal Assistant - Virginia Beach

The Virginia Beach office of Kaufman & Canoles seeks an experienced professional Real Estate Legal Assistant to perform a variety of administrative duties in support of attorneys. Candidates must possess a minimum of three years' relevant work experience, proficiency in Microsoft Office 2016, and typing skills at a level of 65 WPM. The ability to establish and maintain effective workplace relationships and excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare routine correspondence, draft and revise loan documents, agreements and other documents.
  • Interact with clients in person and via telephone and email.
  • Arrange and schedule client appointments, meetings, and conference calls.
  • Open and maintain files and sub-files.
  • Create binders to organize and index all documents for closings.
  • Prepare and sends billing statements monthly.
  • Operate standard office equipment, including personal computer, dictation equipment, copier, scanner, and telephone.
  • Input timekeeper data.
  • Review and sorts mail.
  • Make travel arrangements.
  • Assist in preparing for and setting up meetings.
  • Perform a variety of other administrative tasks as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of three years’ relevant work experience in a professional office setting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 2016 and document management software; typing at a level of 65 WPM.
  • Operational knowledge of standard office equipment including copier, scanner, telephone, and dictation equipment.
  • Demonstrated understanding of legal terminology.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to multi-task, prioritize competing responsibilities, and meet tight deadlines.
  • Proven meticulous attention to detail and proofreading skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, attorneys, co-workers, and other outside professionals.

The Kaufman & Canoles Environmental Law Practice Group is seeking a highly qualified Environmental Law/Superfund Partner for our Williamsburg location. Our Environmental Law Practice Group represents a variety of companies with hazardous waste and Superfund matters in multiple states around the country. 

REQUIREMENTS:

Responsibilities:
1. Provide effective and practical advice to clients to assist them in promoting their best interests. 
2. Advising companies of all sizes regarding environmental compliance, defending environmental enforcement actions and civil lawsuits, assisting with environmental due diligence in corporate transactions, and drafting and negotiating environmental contracts. 
3. Offers an experienced attorney the opportunity to manage and expand a high profile, national-level practice while enjoying the outstanding quality of life that the firm and Southeastern Virginia offers.

Qualifications:
1. 15+ years of experience involving environmental statutes and regulations. 
2. General commercial litigation experience preferred.

Education:
1. Juris Doctorate (J.D.) degree from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association with an outstanding academic record. 
2. Admission to the Virginia State Bar via waiving in from another jurisdiction or passing the Virginia Bar exam
3. Must be and remain licensed to practice law and in good standing in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
4. During employment, must meet requirements for continuing licensure for law practice; some opportunities for obtaining in-house CLE through Kaufman & Canoles will be available.
