The Kaufman & Canoles Corporate and Public Finance Practice Group is seeking a highly qualified Mandarin Fluent Securities Attorney for our Richmond location.

REQUIREMENTS:

Responsibilities:

1. Provide effective and practical advice to clients to assist them in promoting their best interests.

2. Review materials provided by clients in English and Chinese (Mandarin); communicate with clients in Chinese (Mandarin) and English about complex legal matters; occasional translation of legal and business documents between English and Chinese (Mandarin).

3. Assist with preparation and submission of SEC filings, proxy statement and annual shareholder meeting materials.

4. Assist with management of clients’ legal disclosure obligations and clients’ day-to-day governance and securities functions.

5. Assist with compliance with all applicable securities laws and regulations, stock exchange rules, and related regulatory compliance activities.

6. Draft, review and revise board and committee resolutions.

Qualifications:

1. Prefer two or more years’ prior experience in public company securities law, representing foreign and domestic companies.

2. Must be able to speak and write fluently in English and Chinese (Mandarin) on technical, business and legal matters.

3. Knowledge of and experience with the federal and state securities laws, corporate securities and stock exchange procedures. Demonstrated ability to recognize and weigh business and legal risks, lead strategically and advance innovative solutions.

4. Exceptional business and legal acumen; ability to identify and diagnose legal problems and articulate creative and practical solutions and alternatives.

5. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, other firm attorneys, support staff, and outside professionals.

6. Demonstrated ability and willingness to function with a high degree of autonomy.

7. Exceptional communication, organizational, interpersonal, and listening skills.

8. Able to obtain a Passport for international travel. Must be able to travel for up to 4 weeks at a time spending up to 15% of total time traveling out of town to meet with clients.

Education:

1. Juris Doctorate (J.D.) degree from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association with an outstanding academic record.

2. Admission to the Virginia Bar.

3. Must be and remain licensed to practice law and in good standing in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

4. During employment, must meet requirements for continuing licensure for law practice; some opportunities for obtaining in-house CLE through Kaufman & Canoles will be available.

Chief Information Officer

The firm is currently seeking a highly qualified Chief Information Officer to be based in our Norfolk headquarters. The individual will manage a department that includes seven individuals consisting of Systems Engineers, an Application Specialist, a Training and Development Manager, an IT Support Coordinator and Computer Support Technicians.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Develop and implement strategies firm-wide to maintain systems, government compliance requirements, and security features required for the success of the firm.
  2. Continually evaluate the hardware and software available to attorneys and staff for potential upgrades and problem resolution.
  3. Manage and train staff in the Information Technology department to ensure excellent internal client satisfaction with prompt and courteous service and recruit and hire new staff as needed to maintain excellent service and performance standards.
  4. Maintain a reliable disaster recovery plan, back-up procedures, and controls for all systems.
  5. Monitor and continually evaluate risk and security measures to prevent threats to systems and data.
  6. Oversee hardware and software training for new and current attorneys and staff to ensure efficiencies throughout the firm.
  7. Prepare the annual budget for maintenance of current systems and capital improvement projects.
  8. Work with vendors to review agreements and negotiate contracts for support, licensing, and services.
  9. Maintain up to date HIPAA and Technology Use Policies and oversee the training of all staff relative to compliance with such policies.
  10. Participate and provide a vital role on the Hurricane Preparation and Recovery Team and Technology Committee.
  11. Interface with the firm’s Executive Committee, Chairman, Director of Administration and Technology Committee, as appropriate, to provide advice, recommendations, proposed budgets and implementation strategy on key technology initiatives as well as to provide leadership and forward thinking in identifying best in class solutions to meet the firm’s technology needs.
  12. Travel to the eight office locations (Chesapeake, Hampton, Newport News, Richmond, Tysons Corner, Virginia Beach, and Williamsburg) is necessary at least 25% of the time. Travel will also be required for conferences or specialized system/software training.
  13. Strive to maintain system uptimes that are best in class, properly and timely communicate to attorneys and staff with respect to system outages and correction plans, and implement proper strategies for emergency failover of operating systems.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. 10 or more years’ experience in information systems and technology with at least 7 years in a management/supervisory capacity.
  2. Bachelor’s Degree in an IT or business related field is strongly preferred. A Master’s Degree related to technology or MBA is beneficial.
  3. Law firm or professional services experience is highly desired.
  4. Knowledge of all of the following systems is preferred: Elite 3E, Windows 10, Citrix, Citrix Netscalers, MS Office 2016, Legal Bar, iManage, 100% Virtualized VMWare Environment, Hosted Primary Data Center, Palo Alto Firewalls, Cisco VOIP/SIP, Windows Server 2012/2016, Exchange 2016, Trinti SAN, Vectra, IntApp Wallbuilder, Riverbeds and videoconferencing.
  5. Strong leadership skills with proven ability to properly manage major software and hardware projects including upgrades and to maintain a cohesive, service oriented and committed IT support team.
  6. Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills are required.
  7. Microsoft certification preferred. Information technology or project management certifications are advantageous.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Kaufman & Canoles is seeking a qualified Computer Support Technician for our Norfolk office. The Computer Support Technician assists staff and attorneys with the tools needed to maximize productivity when working with firm technology. He or she is responsible for providing users with technical support, moving and repairing equipment in all office locations, and assisting with the routine maintenance of the Network.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Ideal candidate will be experienced with support desk operations including opening, resolving, and follow-up of support calls. Excellent written and oral communication skills, outstanding client service attitude, proficiency with MS Office 2016, Windows 7/8/10 and basic network concepts a must. High school diploma or equivalent required. College degree with coursework in information systems or equivalent with Microsoft Office Specialist certifications in Word and Excel preferred. Law Firm experience preferred. Minimum two years of hands-on experience with hands on PC hardware, Windows 10, enterprise operating system, and software support in a structured employee service technology position.

Conference Center Assistant

The Norfolk office of Kaufman & Canoles is seeking a qualified, full-time Conference Center Assistant to ensure all firm staff needs and requests are met and accurately delivered in a timely manner. The incumbent is responsible for setting up/cleaning up meals and beverages in conference rooms, maintaining a clean office atmosphere, stocking kitchen supplies, and assisting Receptionists with administrative duties as needed. Candidates must have the ability to stand and walk for long periods of time, lift and move up to 25 lbs., bend, and kneel. Must also be personable, articulate, and professional in presenting self to clients and function with a high level of patience, tact, and diplomacy. This position is full-time, non-exempt.
