Real Estate Strategies Update - May 2011

Kaufman & Canoles' Real Estate Strategies Group is composed of attorneys and other professionals who focus on transactional, development and land use matters as well as attorneys who focus on specialized related areas such as environmental law and tax planning. In many instances our attorneys work closely with members of our Corporate & Public Finance Practice Group in structuring and implementing public/private partnerships.

Our team members possess a wealth of talent and experience and have a proven track record in handling a wide variety of both routine and complex real estate matters. Over the past few months, K&C's Real Estate Strategies Group has had the privilege of assisting clients in numerous real estate matters. Below is a summary of a few of our recent transactions.

  • Kaufman & Canoles recently acted as special District of Columbia counsel to 1899 L Street Tower, LLC, a Delaware limited liability company, BlackRock Granite Property Fund, Inc., a Maryland corporation and BlackRock Granite Property Fund, L.P., a Delaware limited partnership in connection with the closing of a $37,000,000 loan from Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company, secured in part by certain real property located in the District of Columbia.   • Kaufman & Canoles recently successfully negotiated a consent agreement for a real estate development company in a Virginia Department of Environmental Quality Wetlands/Storm Water Enforcement Action.   • Kaufman & Canoles recently served as bank counsel in connection with a $10,000,000 loan by Bank of America, N.A. to finance the development of three new retail buildings for the Williamsburg Pottery in Williamsburg, Virginia.   • Kaufman & Canoles recently represented Taylor Farms Land Company, LLC in its application for a conditional use permit before the Virginia Beach City Council to allow a large scale sand borrow pit on a portion of its property. The conditional use permit was ultimately approved.

    According to Linda Chappell of Taylor Farms, 'We were thrilled with our experience of working with Ann Crenshaw. Ann was thorough and very knowledgeable about the in's and out's of communicating with the City Staff. She was easily accessible and returned phone calls or emails immediately which helped make the CUP process much more pleasant.
