Kaufman & Canoles Receives the Chesapeake Bay Blue Crab Award for Virginia Legal Food Frenzy

May 2013–Kaufman & Canoles is pleased to announce that the firm is the recipient of the Chesapeake Bay Blue Crab Award for collecting the largest per capita donations – the equivalent of 496 pounds per person, approximately 72,000 pounds total, of food during Virginia’s 7th Annual Legal Food Frenzy. Kaufman & Canoles also won the large firm category for the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia’s local awards.

The statewide food and funds drive, organized by the Office of the Virginia Attorney General, the Virginia Bar Association and the Federation of Virginia Food Banks is a competition between law firms, legal departments, government offices, and law schools across Virginia to raise donations for local food banks. The 2013 Legal Food Frenzy raised nearly 1.5 million pounds of food for Virginia’s hungry during the two-week competition.

“We are honored to receive the Chesapeake Bay Blue Crab Award and proud of all of our employees who pulled together to support the Legal Food Frenzy, making a significant impact in the communities in which we work and live,” said William R. Van Buren III, Chairman of Kaufman & Canoles.

Kaufman & Canoles’ Legal Food Frenzy committee includes: James W.C. Canup, Laurie A. Claywell, Gayle P. Gregg, Robin Henderson, Tonia Moore, Jackie S. Nevins, J. Morgan Rodriguez, Anna Richardson Smith, Karla J. Soloria, and Stephen E. Story . Members of the committee will accept the award at a special reception at the Governor’s Mansion in June.
